4-4-2: How Liverpool can lineup after signing €100million Darwin Nunez

Darwin Nunez

Liverpool are close to completing a €100million deal to sign Darwin Nunez and the Uruguayan opens the door to more tactical setups.

Jurgen Klopp has improved tremendously over the last few years as far as his tactics are concerned.

When he first arrived at the club, he was often guilty of being too stubborn with his approach and rarely changed things mid-game.

It was a frustrating trait but since the start of the 2018/19 season, the German has become famous for his ability to adapt in-game.

Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool have been dubbed the ‘Mentality Monsters’ for their never say die attitude but Klopp’s tactical fluidity has also been key to giving his side the best chance of turning games around.

With Nunez joining the club, Klopp will now be able to consider formations that have not been viable until now.

Raj Chohan, one of my favourite follows on Twitter, suggests that Klopp could now implement a 4-4-2 with Nunez and Salah up front.

The Uruguayan is more than capable of playing wide left when needed and so is more than able to stretch defences by running the left channel when Liverpool need an out ball.

A 4-4-2 would, however, require another signing to make sure the right-wing position is filled properly with Salah needed as the right-sided striker.

Someone like Raphinha or Antony would be perfect as both are fantastic creators and aren’t shy of putting in the hard yards required to make a 4-4-2 work.
