Liverpool will be in the market for a new striker this summer.
Since Arne Slot took over the team, he has made it clear with his selections that he is not a fan of Darwin Nunez. The club record signing has been relegated to a rotation role this season. Slot has preferred to use Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota up front.
The reds’ attacking game plan this season has heavily revolved around Mohamed Salah. When the forward is marked out of the game, the rest of the team find it difficult to create and score. This is a huge reason why Arne Slot has asked for reinforcements in attack ahead of next season.
Quiz: Can you name the team Liverpool signed these players from?
Liverpool eye Champions League marksman

Liverpool are set to lose a whole host of players when the season ends. This includes Mohamed Salah, who has over 40 goal involvements in the Premier League this season. The next top scorer in the league for Liverpool is Luis Diaz with nine goals.
According to reports, the reds have set their sights on a new striker. The i Paper has revealed that Liverpool are among a host of Premier League clubs eyeing Jonathan David this summer. The forward scored seven goals in 10 Champions League games this season, including one at Anfield.
David has already hinted that he is ready to leave Lille for a bigger European club this summer:
“I’m not sure if I’m staying or going, but if I do end up going I think I have to push myself at the very highest level.” He added, “When you play for a big club your position is never guaranteed and you have to fight… I’m never guaranteed anywhere I go to start every game. I have to perform. I’m willing to fight. I know it’s an important year, it’s a big decision, so I’ll make a wise decision.”
The 25-year old will be available as a free agent when his current contract expires in June.
Is Jonathan David better than Darwin Nunez?
The Lille striker has shown he is prolific in front of goal. In his 170 games in Ligue 1 he has 85 goals, one of the highest scorers within that period. His versatility also allows him to play across the frontline, something Arne Slot prefers when it comes to his attackers.
Jonathan David is a better goalscorer than Darwin Nunez, and more importantly will cost much less. His wages in France are not steep, and he will not come with any crazy signing on fee. Liverpool is the best club to join to increase his stock in the near future. If it works, the reds have a striker for the future, if David does flop, the club’s financial loss will be marginal.
