Liverpool set to secure major signing

Rafael Benítez opens up about Arne Slot

Liverpool are set to undergo a major shake-up behind the scenes just ahead of the winter transfer window with a key official set to depart the club in the coming months.

The Merseyside giants announced last week that Dave Fallows would be moving on from the club by the end of the year as their director of scouting and recruitment.

The 63-year-old has been at the club for 12 years and is now set to depart, which would leave a gaping hole in the club’s recruitment structure ahead of a key transfer window.

Liverpool have moved swiftly to make sure that the position gets filled and it emerged that the club are in talks with former Dortmund and Bayern Munich transfer guru Markus Pilawa.

A highly-rated operator in the market, Pilawa has been credited for unearthing numerous gems for Bayern Munich and Dortmund and is hugely respected in the game.

Liverpool close in on the transfer guru

The Reds are keen to make sure that they have the best in class behind the scenes to support Arne Slot and his team on the pitch.

Pilawa is considered one of the best in the business and the club are closing in on agreeing on a deal to take him to Anfield.

He is currently a free agent and negotiations with his representatives are expected to be straightforward over the next few weeks.

Liverpool want him lined up to replace Fallows who is departing the club with the best wishes of the hierarchy.

Pilawa’s arrival will signal CEO Michael Edwards and sporting director Richard Hughes’ increased emphasis on data-driven recruitment going forward.

Bundesliga expert Ronan Murphy told Anfield Watch: “Pilawa is a data-driven scout and his holistic approach to recruitment will focus heavily on bringing in players who can develop at the academy and not just big names who could contribute straight away.

“Appointing him would be a long-term approach for Liverpool, with dividends expected in the future rather than immediately.”

Pilawa’s arrival is also set to hand Liverpool a huge advantage in the race for Bundesliga stars given his contacts in Germany.

There are suggestions that Liverpool now have the edge over other clubs in the pursuit of Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens.
