Liverpool dropped crucial points midweek against Aston Villa.
The reds were away from home on Wednesday night. Coming into the game, Liverpool had a healthy seven-point lead over Arsenal. The Villa game was the second time in three games that the reds dropped points. Everton held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in the last ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
Mohamed Salah opened the scoring in the first half hour of the game. His 24th league goal of the season. Villa took a quick lead; Youri Tielemans scored the equalizer and Ollie Watkins added a goal just before half-time. Liverpool went into half-time losing the game.
Trent Alexander-Arnold levelled the score after the 60th minute. The last 30 minutes of the game was end-to-end with both sides nearly scoring the winner.

Liverpool set £60M asking price

Darwin Nunez came on in the 66th minute for Liverpool. His cameo was an impactful one but for the wrong reasons. The striker missed an open net after Dominik Szoboszlai squared a pass during a counter attack. After great work pressing, Nunez ruined another opportunity. He chose to round Emi Martinez 1v1, when he could have passed the ball. The Villa keeper got a touch to clear it to safety. After the game, Arne Slot said he was disappointed with the Uruguayan’s cameo.
Liverpool will reportedly look to revamp their attack in the summer. They might have to part ways with some current players in order to do so. Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have all been named as potential exits. According to TBR Football, Liverpool have confirmed a £60million price tag for Nunez. The report claims the 26-year old has accepted that his future lies away from Anfield. The Uruguayan’s representatives are open to moving during the summer window.
Liverpool rejected a bid from the Saudi Pro League in January. The negotiations never reached the player as the reds shut down the bid. The Saudi clubs could return for Nunez in the coming months.
Transfer fee would benefit summer recruitment
£60million is a good fee in today’s market. It would be enough for the club to sign another attacker in the same window. Arne Slot has made it clear that he wants a new set of players before the start of next season. With Mohamed Salah possibly leaving Anfield, finding new targets should be a priority.
