Liverpool push for £75m winger amid Mohamed Salah concerns

Liverpool are pushing hard to secure £75m winger as calls to move ahead from Mohamed Salah increases. Premier League rivals also in fray for the player.

The Merseyside club have joined Manchester United in a race to sign this in-form forward as pressure rises of club talisman Salah.

Liverpool’s quest to secure their 21st league title has sit a rocky patch. They have lost their last three league games Manchester United, Chelsea and Crystal Palace. From having a five-point lead, they now sit four-points behind the league leaders Arsenal.

Salah too is having a torrid run having failed to find the net or turn provider in his last five matches for the club.

Mohamed Salah has been nowhere near his 2024/25 levels. He scored 29 goals and made 18 assists in the Premier League last term. A total of 47 goal contributions in 38 appearances, averaging 1.24 per match.

However there has been a significant drop in those numbers. The Egyptian has two each of goals and assists in eight fixtures this season. An average of 0.5 per match, less than half of 2024/25. His recent form has been even worse with no contributions in his last four league games.

Compare that to in-form Antoine Semenyo, the Ghanian is clearly a player on the ascendency. From having 17 contributions in 37 games last season, the 25-year old has 9 contributions in 8 games in the ongoing one. And those numbers can only rise with Liverpool’s supply line.

Plenty of problems upfront

Having spent over £400m in the summer transfer window, Liverpool were expected to have a easy title defence. Both their £100m+ signings in Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz have been off the mark. Only Hugo Ekitike has shone so far.

Cody Gakpo has shone glimpses of brilliance. Two of his shots hitting the woodwork against Manchester United, but the overall confidence levels are not there at the moment.

While the new signings still adjust, calls for Salah’s exclusion have only grown. Former legends have asked manager Slot to take the bold call. Will that call lead to his Liverpool exit or will Salah turn things around is something we will have to wait for.
