Liverpool prepare club record fee for World Cup winner

Liverpool have lined up a major move this summer.

The reds were so close to seriously challenging for the treble this season. Arne Slot did a huge job with the Liverpool squad. His tactics and shift in playing style brought the best out of some players at the club. Ryan Gravenberch benefited the most from the new system, and is arguably one of the best midfielders in Europe this season.

Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League on Wednesday night. Paris Saint-Germain came to Anfield with a lot of intensity after their shock defeat in the first leg. Harvey Elliot came off the bench to score a late winner in Paris.

PSG scored early at Anfield, but Liverpool were able to hold on for the rest of the game, with the match going to extra time and penalties. Gigi Donnarumma’s penalty saves saw the French side progress to the next round.

After the Paris Saint-Germain game, it became quite clear that Liverpool needed serious upgrades. Seeing the French side bring Desire Doue and Goncalo Ramos off the bench while the reds could only call on Wataru Endo and Curtis Jones. The attacking depth has played a huge part this season. Liverpool have planned to revamp the squad ahead of this summer.

Arne Slot is reportedly not a fan of how the forward players outside Mohamed Salah have played this season. Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have all failed to provide impact in tight games. Federico Chiesa will also be offloaded ahead of next season. As a result, the reds will be in the market for a new striker this summer.

Sam McGuire reports that Liverpool have been linked with a move for Julian Alvarez. The former Manchester City star has been in phenomenal form since joining Atletico Madrid. Alvarez has 22 goals in all competitions this campaign. The report says Liverpool were very interested in signing the Argentine international last summer, but City rejected their initial proposal. The reds could be back in for the 25-year old this summer, but would have to pay in excess of £100million for the forward.

Alvarez move would be highly unlikely

Atletico Madrid letting go of one of the best attackers in Europe after just one season would be absurd. For Liverpool to even get this deal across the line, they would have to pay a club record fee. As it stands, any move for the 25-year old would be unlikely, but the reds are intent on showing ambition this summer.
