Liverpool hit a stumbling block in their Premier League journey.
The reds dropped points in their midweek clash away to Aston Villa. Mohamed Salah scored his 24th goal of the season to give Liverpool the lead in the first half. Villa equalized and then took the lead late in the first half in the space of eight minutes. Unai Emery’s side went into half time with a 2-1 lead.
Liverpool struggled in the opening stages of the second half. But a goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold levelled the game after 60 minutes. The last 30 minutes in the game was a straight shootout between the teams, as both had chances to win the game.
Darwin Nunez came on after 66 minutes, and his impact was felt. However it was not fruitful in front of goal as he spurned two great chances to give the Reds the lead. After the game, Arne Slot made his opinion known about the Uruguayan’s cameo.

Liverpool players frustrated over contract situation

The reds still have an eight point lead at the top of the Premier League. Arne Slot’s side also await their opponent in the Round of 16 in the Champions League. Liverpool can lift their first trophy this season in the League Cup final next week.
However, off the field issues continue to dominate the headlines at Anfield. It has been revealed that players at the club are unhappy with the current situation. Graeme Bailey has reported that multiple Liverpool players are frustrated about Virgil Van Dijk’s contract talks. The defender is one of three players who could leave the club at the end of the season. Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold could also follow him out of the door.
It is said that Van Dijk and Liverpool have been in talks since August. However, a deal is yet to be agreed. And this is causing concerns within the team. The dressing room is becoming concerned that they could lose their captain at the end of the season.
Squad have every right to be concerned
We are way past the midpoint of the season, and Liverpool are yet to confirm the future of any of their best players. It is completely understandable that the squad would be frustrated. The news surrounding the team would distract them, especially nearing the end of the campaign. Over the next few months, the team will challenge for silverware. It would be best for all the Liverpool players to be in the right frame of mind to win games.
