Liverpool went into the international break on a sour note.
The reds suffered two poor results in the space of a week. Liverpool were knocked out of the Champions League against Paris Saint-Germain. The French side dominated in both legs, however Arne Slot’s side came out with a result in the first leg from Paris. PSG came to Anfield and took an early lead, not much happened after as the game went to extra time and then to penalties. A stellar performance from Gianluigi Donnarumma during the shoot outs saw the Ligue 1 leaders into the next round of the competition.
Liverpool then faced Newcastle in the League Cup final later during the week. The Magpies took a shock lead just before half time. Alexander Isak’s goal late in the second half doubled the lead. Federico Chiesa pulled one back late in the game, but it was not enough to change the result.

Liverpool transfer plans revealed

Liverpool have a big summer ahead of them. The club are preparing towards next season, Arne Slot wants new faces in ahead of the next campaign. In the meantime, Liverpool still have the futures of their best players to sort out. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season. There are plans with multiple transfer targets drawn up in place for the summer window.
With the club set to lose three players in key areas of the team, the plan is to focus on adding quality in those areas. According to Christian Falk, Arne Slot has already laid out Liverpool’s plans for this summer. The report claims that Slot contacted Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong recently, and shared the details:
“The Liverpool head coach had been telling the fullback he was still keen to get him. However, he’s very upfront and honest, so Frimpong is aware that, at the moment, a striker and a defender are the main targets for Liverpool who aren’t going to get any fees in for Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah or Trent Alexander-Arnold should all three leave at the end of their contracts this summer.”
Reds are on the right track
Buying a striker and a new defender this summer shows that the club have serious intent. With what has happened with Darwin Nunez this season, Liverpool desperately need a cutting edge up front. And losing Van Dijk would be a huge blow, so drafting in a new defender is necessary.
