Monday’s deadline day brought a lot of activity to Anfield as Liverpool let players leave.
The Reds insisted on no signings in January, as Arne Slot was happy with the current squad. Liverpool decided to move some players on the last day of the transfer window. Many of them were loan deals. Multiple reports continue to indicate that a chunk of transfer business will be done in the summer.
This leaves just a few months for the club to resolve the current contract offers on the table. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season. This has played a huge part this season, as the trio are determined to win the Premier League, among other trophies.
Reds captain Van Dijk was focused on the league after the Bournemouth win last weekend:
“Why should we look at the table? It is February 1st. Just focus on the games we have ahead. Big or close gap, we still just have to win our games. That is the only thing we have an influence on. Let’s see what it brings.”

On deadline day, the reds saw eight players leave the club. Marcelo Pitaluga, Tom Hill and Luca Furnell-Gill left permanently. While Calvin Ramsay, Stefan Bajcetic, Dominic Corness, Kaide Gordon and Jayden Danns left on loan deals.
One player Liverpool made a decision on was Luke Chambers. The youngster has been on loan at Wigan this season. However, since Chambers picked up a back problem in October, he is yet to play a game. This lead to rumours that the defender would have his loan deal cancelled.
Wigan boss Shaun Maloney was blunt, saying that it was possible Liverpool could pull the plug:
“We might have to wait until Monday evening on that one,”
”That will be their [Liverpool’s] call, they’ll make that decision…and in fairness, they’ve been absolutely brilliant with the whole thing. Whatever they think is right, we’ll be fine with the decision.”
Wigan Today confirmed that the reds have given the green light for Chambers to remain with the Latics
Good decision by the club
Luke Chambers had a good start to the season, with a goal and assist in his first 10 games. But injury disrupted his loan spell. With the youngster set to return soon, there was no reason to cancel his loan. Wigan are clearly happy with the player, and will play him when fit. Liverpool have made a hugely beneficial decision.
