Liverpool legend believes Virgil Van Dijk will quit the club this summer

Liverpool are yet to resolve the club’s contract issues.

Ahead of this summer, there is a whole host of players that could leave the club. Liverpool have been embroiled in the contract sagas of the club’s best players this season. Since the start of the campaign, the reds have been trying to tie down Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah. As it stands, all three could leave the club at the end of the season. The trio have played a huge part in this season, and they could end the year with a Premier League trophy.

When the season ends, Liverpool will also have to deal with other player contracts. Ibrahima Konate, Andrew Robertson and Caomhin Kelleher have a year left on their current deals. The reds have decisions to make; they could sell the trio this summer or risk losing them for free next year.

Out of the main trio at Anfield this summer, all three are expected to leave. But with Mohamed Salah, and Virgil Van Dijk, there may be some hope that either player changes their mind to stay beyond this season. When it comes to Trent Alexander-Arnold, the defender is already reportedly out of the door. Liverpool could lose three of the best players of the last few years on free transfers. The club is preparing for their eventual departures from Anfield.

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler believes all three players will leave the club in the summer:

“Speaking from a fan point of view, I honestly don’t think all of them will stay. Who? I really couldn’t tell you. I’m a Liverpool fan, I want Liverpool to do well and I want Liverpool to have all the best players,”

“When you’re looking at Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah these are three massively important players for Liverpool. I know Mo didn’t have a great game [vs Newcastle on Sunday], they probably missed Trent but Virgil was probably the only Liverpool player who could hold his head high after yesterday.

“You want the three of them to sign. I think it is relatively poor from the club to let these great players get down to a few months left of their contract. What will be, will be!”

Fans need to prepare for a heart-breaking summer

With how brutal this week has been, Liverpool fans should prepare for more misery at the end of the season. With multiple reports claiming Salah, Trent and Van Dijk would consider staying if the club won trophies, now that looks impossible. The reds are facing a reality where all three leave at the end of the season, with the club needing to start a rebuild.
