European giants drop Mohamed Salah pursuit

Liverpool are yet to decide the future of Mohamed Salah.

The reds are yet to resolve the forward’s contract situation with a few months left to the end of the season. Salah is not alone; Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk could follow him out of the door. The trio have played a huge role in Liverpool’s success this season.

Trent has been back to his best, after an underwhelming season last year. Virgil Van Dijk has anchored one of the best defences in Europe this season. Mohamed Salah has continued to thrive this year, the Egyptian international has over 40 goal involvements in the Premier League this season.

It was very unfortunate that the trio were denied leaving the club with a treble this season, after exiting the Champions League and losing the League Cup within the same week.

This summer is set to be a pivotal one in the reds’ future. The club are set to make massive changes to the first team squad ahead of next season. Arne Slot did not really have a say in Liverpool’s transfers over the last few windows. Two players arrived on permanent deals this year; Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili. Liverpool’s transfer dealings will revolve around the futures of Salah, Trent and Van Dijk.

Mohamed Salah has been insistent on staying at Anfield past this season. Every interview he has granted this year, was asking the club to offer him and other key players contract renewals.

However, one option for Mohamed Salah has been ruled out. According to Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain are no longer in the race for the Egyptian international. The publication gives two main reasons why Salah’s potential move to the French giants is unlikely. First, Mohamed Salah is reportedly willing to stay at Liverpool past this summer. Salah wishes to remain at Anfield and is still in talks with the reds. The other reason is that Luis Enrique and Luis Ocampos feel that the 32-year old’s profile is no longer needed for their first team. PSG signed former Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in January.

Salah worry grows closer

After Mohamed Salah was reportedly linked with a move to FC Barcelona, these further reports will give fans more cause to worry. And after back to back losses this past week, the Premier League is the only trophy Liverpool can win this year. The reds have a fight on their hands to keep the Egyptian next season.
