Liverpool and Chelsea are in the market for a top striker, and it is no surprise that they are trying to shop in the same pool of players this summer. However, the Merseyside giants are set to pick up the baton of negotiations after the Blues lose out on a top target.
The Reds are desperate to sign a new number 9 as Arne Slot lost all faith in Darwin Nunez last season, who didn’t start a league game for the club after March.
Liverpool have been busy working on deals to sign Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez, and have been unable to move on a few strike targets due to their failure to move Nunez on early.
However, the Uruguayan’s departure could be imminent, and Liverpool are eyeing hijacking a deal set up by Chelsea for the signature of a wanted forward in the ongoing transfer window.

Hugo Ekitike will leave Eintracht Frankfurt this summer after helping them qualify for the Champions League last season.
However, his destination remains a mystery despite serious interest from Chelsea, who have been trying to convince him to move to Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool have also been in conversations with his representatives, but Chelsea have been the ones who are really pushing to get a deal over the line.
However, according to Sky Deutschland, Chelsea’s deal to sign Ekitike is on the verge of collapsing as the Blues are in no mood to pay Eintracht’s £84m asking price.
And the German club do not want to lower the price tag for the French forward this summer.
Liverpool have increased contacts with the forward’s agents and are now prepared to hijack the move from under Chelsea’s nose.
However, it is unclear whether the Reds are prepared to meet Eintracht’s asking price as well.
