Liverpool hijack £74m Virgil van Dijk successor from the Bundesliga

In a stunning transfer window twist, Liverpool have hijacked a £74m Bundesliga transfer, securing a deal for a highly-rated defender touted as the long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk. With rival clubs circling and the summer window heating up, Arne Slot has made his intentions clear: Liverpool are planning for the future, and they’re not waiting around.

Liverpool have shown their ambition and intent with the Florian Wirtz signing, who has joined the club for a British record transfer fee this summer.

The Merseyside giants are in the market for a centre-back, and Jarell Quansah’s £35m imminent move to Bayer Leverkusen has increased the urgency for a new defender.

Liverpool believe they have found a successor for Virgil van Dijk in the Bundesliga, and are set to make a big-money move to take him to Anfield this summer.

Liverpool find their Virgil van Dijk successor in the Bundesliga

Van Dijk has signed a new two-year contract, but Liverpool are aware that they need a replacement for him sooner rather than later.

Liverpool have lined up a move for Marc Guehi, but the club are prepared to sign one more centre-back who could be Van Dijk’s long-term replacement.

According to the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele, the Merseyside giants are eyeing a move to sign RB Leipzig centre-back Castello Lukeba in the ongoing window.

Liverpool have regularly scouted the 22-year-old French centre-back, who is seen as one of the best young defenders in the world.

“Lukeba at Leipzig could be one to watch, it’s clear Liverpool have kept an eye on him”, Steels said on his YouTube Channel.

“I’ve been told Liverpool have had scouts at many RB Leipzig games this season. He could be one as well to watch in terms of Liverpool trying to get the best young defenders on the market.

“They missed out on Yoro, missed out on Huijsen, maybe [they sign] Hato, maybe Lukeba.”

RB Leipzig are expected to demand a fee around the £74m range before agreeing to sell him.
