The recruitment team working under Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes are putting plans in place as they seek to bring in quality young reinforcements for Arne Slot’s squad in the upcoming transfer windows.
Slot’s start to life as Liverpool manager this season has emboldened the hierarchy to be more aggressive in the market in the transfer windows to come.
Liverpool already have plans to bring in an elite defensive midfielder despite Ryan Gravenberch’s emergence and the club are also eyeing attacking reinforcements.
With Mohamed Salah’s future yet to be sorted, the Reds are keeping tabs on wingers across Europe and are focusing on bringing in young talents with a high ceiling.
Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi has been on their radar and they have also been linked with Bologna winger Dan Ndoye.
However, there are more names on their shortlist of targets as the club continue to assess different profiles of wingers.
Liverpool have their eyes on a La Liga winger
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Atletico Madrid winger Pablo Barrios has emerged on their radar this season.
Liverpool scouts have been regularly watching him and he has been gradually emerging as one of the top targets for the Reds.
The Merseyside giants are showing a ‘marked interest’ in the player and are assessing the possibility of taking him to Anfield in the upcoming transfer windows.
However, Atletico Madrid are also aware of the winger’s rising popularity amongst some of the biggest European clubs.
The Spanish giants have moved to guard against losing him and have slapped a €50m asking price on him.
The Reds have a big transfer decision to make
While talented, Barrios is still very much unproven at the top level and only has three goals in 67 senior appearances for Atletico Madrid.
He is considered a talent with a high ceiling and is expected to improve his numbers if he plays for a team with more attacking ethos than Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
However, a €50m asking price is steep for a player who has scored just three senior goals at club level and is pretty much at a developmental stage.
It is unclear whether Liverpool would be prepared to gamble big money on Barrios or look to bring in someone who is more proven at the top level.
