Liverpool receive a massive boost in pursuit of 28-year-old defender tipped as a Virgil van Dijk replacement

Liverpool are enjoying an outstanding start to the season under new manager Arne Slot but the club are looking forward to trying and anticipating the reinforcements they will need in the upcoming transfer windows.

The club want to be more aggressive in the winter window than they were in the summer and have plans in place to reinforce their squad in the middle of the season.

Liverpool want to bring in a defensive midfielder in January and are planning to sell Wataru Endo and loan out Tyler Morton who is a target for Leeds United.

The Merseyside giants are already trying to anticipate what they would need to do next summer and centre-backs are a huge priority at the moment.

Regardless of whether Virgil van Dijk stays or goes, Liverpool are planning to invest in central defenders next year and the club are tracking a few young centre-backs.

They are also not keen to rule out signing an experienced replacement for Van Dijk if he moves on next year and Jonathan Tah is a player they admire.

Liverpool receive a boost in their interest in Jonathan Tah

Tah, who will be out of contract at Bayer Leverkusen next year, was heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich in the summer. However, the German giants failed to work out a deal with the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Leverkusen have not ruled out agreeing on a new contract with the defender but the player has been vocal about not signing a new deal.

Liverpool have their eyes on him but their main threat is the interest from Bayern Munich who are still keen on him.

However, according to the German outlet t-online (via fussball transfers), Tah has developed doubts over a move to Bavaria.

The German giants worked out a contractual agreement with the centre-back in the summer but that is no longer valid.

Bayern Munich are still keen but there are no signs of the club trying to work out a new draft agreement with the player.

Tah also has other options with clubs such as Liverpool, Barcelona and Juventus interested in signing him.

Will the Reds try to sign Tah?

Liverpool are committed to bringing in young talents but Tah has emerged as a potential market opportunity.

The Reds are keeping tabs on young defenders but if Van Dijk leaves, they could be short of experience in their backline next season.

Picking up the Bayer Leverkusen defender on a free transfer would be a massive temptation and it would still leave them funds to bring in a younger centre-back.
