Liverpool ‘have held dicussions’ with club for highly rated England international, Manchester City also in talks

Liverpool are looking forward to a big winter transfer window to back Arne Slot following a rousing start to the season under the new manager.

The Reds had an underwhelming summer when they failed to sign the priority defensive midfielder that Slot and the club’s recruitment team wanted.

The new Liverpool manager has managed to get over the poor transfer window through a run of results that has seen the Reds rise to the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool have emerged as a real title contender under the Dutchman and the club are keen to make sure that they back him with funds in the winter window.

Jamie Carragher has urged the club to go back for Martin Zubimendi in January but the Merseyside giants have other targets for the number 6 role.

Liverpool have been keeping tabs on Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton and it seems they have moved forward to register their interest in him.

Liverpool hold talks with Crystal Palace for Wharton but Manchester City are also in the race

According to journalist Ekrem Konur, Liverpool are pushing forward to try and sign the England midfielder in the January transfer window.

It has been claimed that the Reds have held discussions with Crystal Palace over a potential deal to take Wharton to Anfield in the winter transfer window.

The 20-year-old has developed rapidly since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January this year and is considered a top talent in the Premier League.

Liverpool are keen to move early for him and try and get a deal done to sign the midfielder in the January transfer window.

However, Manchester City are also very much in the race and have held talks with Palace over a deal as well.

The two Premier League giants are said to be ready to offer somewhere around €45m for Wharton in January.

Crystal Palace are unlikely to accept such a bid and are set to demand more than €65m before they can agree to sell Wharton in the middle of the season.
