Liverpool handed huge boost ahead of PSG clash

Liverpool face Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.

The reds host the French Champions at Anfield in the second leg of their Champions League tie. Liverpool left Paris with a shock 1-0 win in the first leg. PSG dominated proceedings and should have taken the lead in the first half. The French side had a goal ruled out for offside early in the game. Liverpool survived a controversial penalty incident involving Ibrahima Konate around the 25th minute.

In the second half, Arne Slot adapted and tinkered his tactics. Liverpool were able to weather the storm for most of the second 45 minutes. Slot made two changes as he brought on Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliot late in the game. The two combined to scored Liverpool’s only goal of the tie late on to secure the win.

After the game, PSG boss Luis Enrique was adamant his team should have won the tie.

Liverpool receive huge boost before Tuesday clash

The reds survived an early scare on the weekend in the game against Southampton. The saints took a shock lead when Smallbone capitalized on miscommunication between Alisson and his defenders to score. Darwin Nunez levelled the game early in the second half before a brace from Mohamed Salah put the game to bed.

Ahead of the second leg against PSG, the reds have received a huge boost. Cody Gakpo has been flagged as fit to play at Anfield. The forward has been out for the last two games due to injury. However, Gakpo trained on Monday and is expected to feature on Tuesday night. Arne Slot even confirmed it in his press conference:

“Yeah he will be in the squad,” the Liverpool boss told reporters. “He trained today for the first time.”

Diogo Jota, who was also at the press conference, gave his view on Liverpool winning multiple trophies this season.

”It’s a big week. We knew that before, the Southampton game was massive because it’s the only game we play this month in the Premier League. We did our job there and now two more games in this week for two different competitions. Two are decisive but one the trophy is on the line already. One game at a time. Tomorrow it’s a big game and we obviously want to go through, and obviously on the weekend to win the first trophy. But like I said, one game at a time.”
