Liverpool are planning to overhaul the squad ahead of next season.
Arne Slot has had the perfect opportunity so far to run the rule over the current squad. Despite having signed just two first team players, the former Feyenoord boss has exceeded expectations. Liverpool were expected to not compete for the league this season. But with less than 10 games to go, the reds have a 15-point gap.
That has not even been the best part of Slot’s tenure. His new style has brought the best out of some players at the club. Ryan Gravenberch is firmly in contention for Player of the Year after struggling last term. Trent Alexander-Arnold has also rediscovered his form after an underwhelming campaign last year.

Before Liverpool make any huge changes this summer, the club have to sort out the futures of their best players. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the season. All three are expected to leave as things stand. According to reports in Spain, Mohamed Salah and his camp have reached out to FC Barcelona.
A Barcelona player has also been linked to Liverpool in recent days. According to reports, the reds have ignited their interest in Frenkie de Jong. The midfielder is currently exploring his future in Spain with one year left on his contract. Any potential move will depend on his current contract; de Jong earns around €365,000-a-week which would make him one of the highest paid at Anfield.
Barcelona have offered de Jong a new three-year contract. SPORT has revealed that the Spanish side want to fight off interest from England this summer. De Jong will earn close to his current salary to remain with the Champions League side. If he chooses to stay with Barcelona, signing him would be a very difficult prospect. Hansi Flick is also said to be a big fan of the 27-year old.
Huge blow for the reds
A move for Frenkie de Jong would have been complicated from the start, but this new deal could shut down any move this summer. The midfielder is a unique talent that would be an upgrade on the current options, with Arne Slot said to be a big fan. Now, Liverpool might have to look elsewhere if they want to add a new face in the middle of the park.
