Liverpool went into the international break on top of the Premier League table with 18 points from their opening seven league games.
Arne Slot’s team are flying at the minute in the Premier League and have emerged as potential title contenders in the first couple of months of the new campaign.
However, there are suggestions that Liverpool are in a false position due to a palatable fixture list and the real test for the Reds will start after they return from the break.
The Merseyside giants are set to face Chelsea and Arsenal in back-to-back Premier League games immediately after the international break and observers feel that it will be the real test of their title credentials.
Liverpool lost to Nottingham Forest after the last break and hope to avoid losing momentum once they return from the ongoing international break.
They would want most of their top players to be fit for the game against Chelsea but there are already concerns around Alexis Mac Allister.
Argentina coach opens up about Liverpool star’s ‘fitness issue’
The midfielder picked up a groin injury during Liverpool’s 1-0 over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last Saturday and didn’t come out in the second half.
However, the Reds were left fuming when he joined his Argentina teammates for their national team camp in Miami this week.
Mac Allister is still carrying the groin injury and Lionel Scaloni conceded that it is difficult to see how he could feature against Venezuela on Thursday.
The midfielder is training separately from the rest of the squad, and the Argentina coach conceded that his fitness is an issue at the moment.
“Alexis is training separately. We will see if he will make it”, Scaloni said in a press conference.
“It is difficult for him to make it to the first game, especially because of the fitness issue. We hope not to lose any more players.”
Liverpool will hope that Argentina decide against risking Mac Allister even against the game against Bolivia next week and allow him to return to England early.
