Liverpool recently made changes to their set-piece roles as they hired an analyst, whilst promoting their First Team Individual Development Coach to the set-piece position.
The Reds have also been pretty active in the transfer market, signing Alexander Isak on deadline day. It was a very difficult manoeuvre for the Swede, but he will finally be fulfilling his dream of playing at Anfield.
However, Arne Slot lost on a major defensive boost in Marc Guéhi. Newcastle United pulled back in the final minutes of deadline day.
The English defender finished medicals in Liverpool, but didn’t expect a last-minute pull-back from his employers. The Eagles failed to find a replacement as their deal to sign Igor Julio collapsed.
Another deadline day transfer was of Harvey Elliott to Aston Villa. The Lions signed the midfielder on loan, having an obligation to buy at the end of the season.
Quickly, The Reds shifted their focus to the management as the transfer market closed on the 1st of September. Their first acquisition was of Lewis Mahoney from Southampton.
The Welshman brings a wealth of analysis experience to Anfield, as Arne Slot has been struggling with set pieces despite the Premier League title last season.

Liverpool fish Loan Expert from The Championship

Ipswich Town Director of Football Operations, Gary Probert, has left Portman Road to join Liverpool as the Head of Loan Management.
Initially covered by Matt Newberry, the position has remained empty since Matt took on the role of Director of Global Talent in November 2024.
Porbert has extensive management and coaching experience across various football clubs. Liverpool aims to make its outgoing loan deals purposeful with this signing.
This will help The Reds make better player development decisions, as Gary is pretty experienced in this field of knowledge. He will work with players and the clubs alike to help them develop into pitch-ready Liverpool players on their return.
Liverpool was one of the leaders in adopting such strategies by using loans intentionally, especially under Julian Ward.
“I think if we get the loan right, a player gets credibility among the coaching fraternity and in football in general. And when they come back to Liverpool, they’ll be more equipped with the demands of being a Liverpool player”, Ward told Training Ground Guru in 2018.
Another aspect that The Reds will need help with is obviously staying under PSR regulations after this transfer window. Instead of pursuing loans just to offload players, they can use them to balance their books and develop their youth at the same time.
