Liverpool had a record-breaking transfer window as The Reds completed deals on multiple fronts. Although there might just be one deal that Slot might later regret, as he left it for deadline day.
The move for English-Ivorian footballer Marc Guéhi collapsed in the closing minutes of the transfer window. The medicals were done in London, but Crystal Palace decided that it was too early to let their captain leave.
On the other hand, The Merseysiders completed the transfer of Alexander Isak with the help of some manoeuvring on the player’s side.
It was war between Newcastle United and Alexander Isak as the Swede refused to train or play for The Toons. The striker took to social media criticising the club as they failed to ‘keep promises’.
Swedish teammate Victor Gyökeres later commented on the saga, talking about the power dynamics at play. Victor seems to have empathised with his teammate as he congratulated him on the transfer.
Marc Guéhi, on the other hand, wasn’t offered the same luxury of choice despite being professional throughout the whole process.

The Eagles Manager, Oliver Glasner, reportedly threatened to walk away with a year left in his contract if Guéhi was let go. The Austrian manager had made it clear that Marc would only be allowed to leave if they could find a replacement in his stead.
“I told the chairman we have to keep Marc if we want to play a successful season. We have no chance to find the right replacement in one day. We all agreed that we just sell Marc if we have the right replacement in the building.”
“We wanted a replacement by 1 July. It is 31 August and we have no replacement. We have this agreement so it is clear from me. He is such a crucial player. He is one of our key players – he is our captain.”
The failure to secure Igor Julio was the trigger that Glasner needed to play this out at Selhurst Park. The initial plan was to find a replacement by the 1st of July, but there were none till the start of September.
On the 1st of September, things might have changed in the Julio deal. The club allowed their captain to undergo medicals on deadline day despite not yet having secured a replacement.
A last-minute hook by West Ham United was enough to cause the chain of reactions that followed.
