Liverpool sit at the summit of the Premier League table after beating Brighton 2-1 at Anfield on Saturday, which continued their fine start to the season.
Arne Slot has made a major impact since taking the reins of the team from Jurgen Klopp in the summer and the Reds have emerged as a real contender to win the Premier League.
Injuries have been emerging as a concern that could affect their momentum as Liverpool are missing several players such as Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota, Harvey Elliott and Federico Chiesa.
However, Liverpool have been disciplined on the pitch and have not missed players due to suspensions unlike their title rivals Arsenal this season.
But that could change soon as one of their key stars is walking a tightrope when it comes to picking up a potential suspension in the coming weeks.
Star could face big title-defining clash
Liverpool fans were miffed by Alexis Mac Allister’s interest in linking up with the Argentina squad last month when he was struggling with a groin injury.
However, he has been a big player for the Reds this season and has started all but one Premier League game this season.
But his yellow card in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Brighton this weekend could end up having a defining impact on the season.
He has already picked up four yellow cards in the Premier League this season and is now facing the danger of getting suspended.
According to the rules, any player picking up five yellow cards in the first 19 league games of the season would have to serve an automatic one-match suspension.
Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?
If Mac Allister picks up a caution against Aston Villa next week, he will be suspended for the game against Southampton after the international break.
However, if he gets yellow carded against the Saints, Liverpool would be without his services against reigning champions Manchester City at Anfield on 1st December.
Slot would be livid if the Argentinian is not available for the Manchester City game and will do well to make sure that the midfielder is more cautious with his challenges in the next couple of league games at least.
The Liverpool manager will also hope that he doesn’t pick up an injury when he links up with the Argentina squad in the next international break.
