Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes and the recruitment team have been putting plans in place to bring in a striker in the next summer transfer window.

The Merseyside giants are looking at several attackers and the club have been really keen on one of the forwards who is scoring goals for fun in Europe.

Liverpool have been tracking Viktor Gyokeres who has scored an astonishing 59 goals and provided 23 assists in 65 games since joining Sporting Lisbon in 2023.

The Reds are interested in him but a move for him is not likely to be straightforward because of Ruben Amorim.

Merseyside giants facing Manchester United threat

Amorim is set to take charge of the Manchester United side on 11th November and he has plans to rejuvenate the squad in coming months.

He is likely to demand signings in the winter window but the new Manchester United boss is almost certain to want a new striker.

According to Sky Deutschland, Amorim’s move to Old Trafford is set to bring Manchester United into the race for Gyokeres next summer.

The new Manchester United head coach is a big fan of the striker and is keen to reunite with him at Old Trafford in the near future.

Gyokeres is almost certain to move on from Sporting Lisbon with Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal keeping tabs on him.

However, the Amorim switch to England is likely to put Manchester United in pole position to sign the Swedish striker in the next summer transfer window.

Liverpool hope that a better project and the prospect of winning major trophies sooner would help them edge out Manchester United in the race for Gyokeres.
