According to Goal, Real Madrid are willing to sell Martin Odegaard and this could finally give the Reds their chance to sign the Norwegian.
Carlo Ancelotti excluded him from Real Madrid’s squad to face Alaves despite including Academy talent Toni Ribera, Miguel Gutiérrez and Antonio Blanco.
Georginio Wijnaldum’s move to PSG leaves a sizeable gap in the engine room but Jurgen Klopp could fill it by moving for Odegaard.
The playmaker feels like he’s been around forever but he’s still only 22 and he’s been on Liverpool’s radar since he was 16.
He trained at Melwood as part of the Reds’ attempt to bring him to the club in 2014 but wound up joining Real Madrid.
Sky Sports says he’s available for around £40m and although it was clear against Norwich City that the Reds won’t struggle to score goals this season, they will come up against more defensively sound opposition and could use a playmaker like Odegaard.
A report from April said that Klopp seduced the then Arsenal, with some Liverpool fans at the time joking on social media that the German was ‘tapping’ him up.
If Liverpool really are interested in Odegaard and the German really did ‘seduce’ the playmaker, he could finally get his move to Anfield.
Adding more creativity and control to their midfield would only make Liverpool stronger and with the biggest danger to the Reds’ title challenge this season being injuries to key players, bringing Odegaard in would take Klopp’s side closer to Manchester City in terms of depth.
Pep Guardiola’s side has unbelievable squad depth and is able to call on the most expensive array of talent in football history.
Liverpool cannot compete with that kind of financial firepower so if they win another Premier League title during Manchester City’s era of dominance, Klopp surely has to go down as a legend.
