Liverpool conduct initials talks over a new deal for £36m man

The outstanding start to the season for Liverpool continued at the weekend when they beat Crystal Palace 1-0 away from home on Saturday.

Liverpool are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League table after winning six of their opening seven league games under new manager Arne Slot.

Several players have come into their own under the Dutchman this season, turning the Reds into genuine contenders for the Premier League title.

Slot has managed to get the best out of several players and turned the Liverpool careers of a few players since his arrival in the summer.

One of the Reds who have benefited from Slot’s less intense training session and playing style this season this season has been the French defender Ibrahima Konate.

The centre-back has been at Anfield since 2021 but has had a stop-start career with Liverpool and is only getting into his groove this season under the new manager.

The Merseyside giants are keen to reward him with a new deal to underline his importance in the team.

Liverpool in initial talks with Konate over a new deal

The Frenchman has been brilliant at the heart of the Liverpool defence this season and has benefited immensely from Slot tweaking his tactics a bit from Jurgen Klopp’s time at Anfield.

According to The Athletic, initial talks have taken place between Liverpool and the defender’s representatives over a new deal.

His current contract is set to expire in 2026 and Liverpool are keen to tie him down to fresh terms on a longer contract before he enters the final year of his current deal.

The defender had a few injury issues and it seemed he lost his way last season following Jarell Quansah’s emergence.

However, Konate has enjoyed a new lease of life under Slot and the club are ready to secure his future at Anfield going forward.
