The away game at Selhurst Park was probably one of the most important clashes this season morale-wise. Moving into the international break on a good note is important for the players in the return fixtures.
Liverpool visited Selhurst Park in their last game before the international break. The Reds won the match 1-0 as a Diogo Jota striker helped the English club on a narrow away win.
The Merseyside-based outfit now stands top of the table in the Premier League. However, the competition is cutthroat in the English top flight with only a point difference between the first and second place.
Things get complicated further down as there is no point difference between second-placed Manchester City and third-placed Arsenal.
Both the clubs remain unbeaten and would like to continue this streak further down the line. The competition remains intense in the upper echelons of the Premier League.
The same can be said for the relegation zone as Wolverhampton Wanderers and Southampton sit at the bottom with a single point to their name.
Crystal Palace is next in the 18th position with three points. A win or draw against Liverpool would have propelled The Eagles outside the relegation zone but The Reds escaped with a narrow victory.
VAR’s controversial decision at the Palace-Liverpool clash is backed by the Premier League

Oliver Glasner was furious down the touchline at the referee’s no-penalty decision
Crystal Palace had a chance to walk away with a draw in the 71st minute. Marc Guehi went down in the Liverpool box following an intervention by Virgil van Dijk.
The Dutch defender seems to have pulled Guehi’s hand but the referee refused to point at the spot. After a VAR check, the decision still stood with Crystal Palace Oliver Glasner furious down the touchline.
Following the controversy, the Premier League’s social media handle was quick to respond.
The referee’s call of no penalty for the challenge by van Dijk on Guehi is checked and confirmed by VAR – deeming that the challenge was not sustained holding and had no impact on the play
The statement clearly mentions that the challenge by van Dijk didn’t include holding. It also claims that the action had no impact on play.
However, Palace head coach Glasner will defer and say otherwise. This point might’ve proven to be a turning point for Palace as a draw against Liverpool would have meant a positive attitude in players after the international break.
The Premier League will probably stay firm on its decision. Obviously, the match can’t be changed but The Eagles can’t do anything if the referee has the league’s backing.
