Liverpool concede shock defeat in pursuit of £120m man in stunning twist

Liverpool have shown that they have every intention to build on their Premier League success this season and improve the quality of the squad this summer. However, Liverpool are not succeeding with every one of their moves, and they have accepted defeat in pursuit of a top target.

Their pursuit of Florian Wirtz has grabbed eyeballs, but the club are also on the verge of signing Jeremie Frimpong, and have progressed in talks to sign Milos Kerkez.

However, Liverpool have other priorities in the market, and some of their moves in the market for certain positions have not gone according to plan this summer.

The Merseyside giants are desperate to bring in a new number 9, but the club have now ended their interest in a top striker target ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Merseyside giants concede defeat in pursuit of a striker

Sporting director Richard Hughes has prioritised signing a striker this summer, but so far, the club are nowhere close to signing a forward.

Alexander Isak has been the dream target, and Liverpool have been trying to find a breakthrough in the talks despite Newcastle United’s reluctance.

However, according to Bild, Liverpool have now admitted defeat in the race to sign the Swedish forward ahead of the transfer window.

With Newcastle qualifying for the Champions League, the club are now under no fiscal pressure to sell Isak, and the striker does not need to push for a transfer.

Liverpool are aware that Isak staying at Newcastle is a foregone conclusion, and they have now turned their attention towards signing Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The German club want at least £84m before sanctioning his sale, and Chelsea are also in the race to sign the forward this summer.
