Michael Edwards pulls off stunning coup for superstar signing at Liverpool

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has earned plaudits for the decisive manner the Reds have acted in the market thus far. However, football CEO Michael Edwards is leading the club’s efforts to sign a superstar in the upcoming transfer window.

Michael Edwards returned to Liverpool to become the football CEO last year and played a key part in hiring Hughes from Bournemouth as the club’s new sporting director.

The new sporting director has been leading Liverpool’s recruitment team and has been at the heart of the club’s transfer plans ahead of the next transfer window.

However, Edwards is the one who is leading the negotiations as Liverpool push towards landing the club’s biggest signing in the upcoming transfer window.

Michael Edwards is set to pull off a transfer masterclass

Florian Wirtz has decided to opt for a move to Liverpool despite interest from Bayern Munich, and it has particularly annoyed officials at Manchester City.

Liverpool are in talks with Bayer Leverkusen, and Edwards is leading the negotiations with his counterpart, Simon Rolfes, at the German club.

Leverkusen want a full package of £126m from Wirtz’s sale, but according to Sport Bild, Edwards is trying to negotiate the overall figure during negotiations.

Liverpool are prepared to pay a figure of £113m to take the German midfielder to Anfield in the upcoming transfer window.

The negotiations are moving in the right direction, and both Edwards and Rolfes are pushing to finalise the transfer in the coming days.

Liverpool hope to have an agreement in place for Wirtz to travel to Merseyside to undergo a medical and finalise his transfer by the weekend.

It will be another Edwards transfer masterclass if he successfully manages to sign Wirtz for a fee less than what Leverkusen have been demanding.
