Liverpool and Spurs have contacted Sampdoria for information on Mikkel Damsgaard, according to Sport Mediaset.
The Italian outlet reports that Liverpool, Spurs, Aston Villa and Leeds United have all made contact with the Serie A outfit.
While Sampdoria are loathe to let Damsgaard leave, a bid of around €35million will reportedly see talks ‘take off’.
The report reads: “Massimo Ferrero’s company needs to make cash before diving into the incoming market.”
Describing the EURO 2020 star as a ‘Danish Jewel’, Sport Mediaset reports that the aforementioned clubs have contacted Sampdoria clubs for information on Damsgaard.
It’s unclear what that information is but with three years remaining on his contract, they are under no pressure to sell him this summer.
The 21-year-old was utterly superb at the EUROs and while he scored just two goals and assisted just four times for his club last season, he is a massive talent.
While England wound up overcoming Denmark to make their way to the final of the tournament, Damsgaard’s freekick was a superb display of the technique he has.
It’s no surprise that a club like Liverpool is interested in him and I wouldn’t be surprised if they monitor his progress over the next year or two.
He’s not quite ready to make the jump to Anfield but if he continues his development the way he has over the last year, he will be a tremendous player in no time.
This summer, Liverpool need an industrious no.8 to replace Georginio Wijnaldum after the Dutchman’s contract expired at the end of June.
It’s surprising that it’s taken this long for Liverpool to find a replacement and with an attacker also needed, the hope is that the Reds don’t go into the new season with Ibrahima Konate as the only new signing.
As Fabrizio Romano reported for Bench Warmers, the Reds missed out on Donyell Malen because they are yet to sell Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri.
