Sport1 journalist Florian Plettenberg confirms that Liverpool and Chelsea bid to sign Federico Chiesa but they were both rejected.
He told LFC Transfer Room: “Liverpool and Chelsea made a bid for Federico Chiesa.
“Chelsea 100% bid €100million, I don’t know the amount that Liverpool bid. Juventus turned down the bids and Chiesa wants to stay at Juve.”

At the end of July, Repubblica reported that the Reds made what would be a club-record bid to sign Chiesa as well as the second-highest Premier League offer.
The bid was said to be worth £86million (€100.78m) so Liverpool and Chelsea would have roughly been on a par with each other if they submitted a €100million offer.
Chiesa would have been a sensational signing for the Reds and if it’s true that the Reds made what can only be described as a gargantuan offer for the Italian, it’s clear they do have funds and that Jurgen Klopp and his trusty sidekick Michael Edwards are playing the long game this summer.
That said, if they have those kind of funds, why don’t they lump it on a player like Kylian Mbappe who is a more proven player or better yet, blow Chelsea out of the water and take Jose Enrique’s advice and sign Erling Haaland?

Of course, I’m not sure I believe Liverpool have made a bid as massive as £86million even if I’d like to just because it doesn’t line up with anything we know about FSG.
The Americans have only ever spent big when they’ve received big funds from sales.
Unless they’re about to sell Mohamed Salah, I don’t see our owners stumping up the cash themselves.
