Jose Enrique thinks that Renato Sanches would be well suited to making a summer switch to Anfield, he told Empire of the Kop.
He said: “Renato Sanches is a player I do know a little bit more about – he has the potential to be a world-class player. He moved to a big, big club when he was very young and sometimes these kinds of transfer are not easy to handle.
“But maybe now it’s the time for him to make a step into a bigger team. With one year left on his contract, he could be a good signing for us.
“We’d have to make it clear to him, though, that we already have Henderson, Thiago and Fabinho, who will probably be our starting three in midfield.
“If he can accept that, for the money it’d take to sign him with one year left on his contract, I believe he could be a great signing for Liverpool.”
On Sunday, we covered a report from L’Equipe which suggested that Lille are ready to let Sanches leave for just €35million.
The report named Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and the Reds as interested parties and while each club will have reasons for not pursuing him, Liverpool’s will be that he has picked up another injury.
According to Transfermarkt, the 24-year-old has been injured 13 times in the last four seasons, missing a total of 58 games.
Liverpool have had their own trouble with injuries and with Naby Keita showing signs of overcoming his own streak of injuries and Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Gomez all returning to full fitness, Jurgen Klopp will be happy to steer clear of injuries if he can help it.
The Portuguese was outstanding at the EUROs and he earned that call-up with a series of world-class games for Lille last season on their way to winning Ligue 1 but Liverpool will be wise to avoid signing another injury-prone player.
