Liverpool and Newcastle stunned as Nottingham Forest swoop in for £40m England star

Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes is working hard behind the scenes to try and set up deals for the upcoming transfer window. However, competition for certain players is getting stiffer, and they are even facing a threat from an ambitious Nottingham Forest side.

Arne Slot has prioritised certain positions ahead of the summer, and Liverpool are pushing to bring in players for the centre-back, left-back and striker spots.

Liverpool’s pursuit of a centre-back is getting more complicated with each passing day, but the club are pushing hard to secure a top defender as early in the window as possible.

Dean Huijsen appears to be on his way to Real Madrid, and competition for one more long-term target is set to get tougher in the upcoming transfer window.

Nottingham Forest enter the fray for the England defender wanted at Anfield

Marc Guehi has been a long-term target for Liverpool, and with a year left on his Crystal Palace contract, the Reds are keen to snap him up for a relatively low fee.

However, Newcastle United are leading the race to sign the centre-back this summer after failing with multiple bids for him last year.

The defender is also said to be keen to join the Magpies, but according to TEAMTalk, Forest have barged into the race to sign the England star this summer.

Forest want to show ambition in the market in the coming months as they push to take the club to the next level after being on the verge of European qualification.

The Palace defender has emerged as a top target, and they have registered their interest in the England star ahead of the summer transfer window.

The Eagles rejected bids of more than £70m last summer, but are likely to accept somewhere around £40m this year.
