Journalist confirms one Liverpool star will remain at Anfield this summer

Liverpool set to receive positive news ahead of this summer.

Multiple reports have indicated that the reds are planning to make major transfers in the upcoming window. The squad will be changed, with Arne Slot to have a say in the signings. The Dutch coach has done a significant job with the current squad this season. This has given optimism that the team will be much better with reinforcements.

Fans have complained that the team has lacked depth, and this has been evident in some cup games this season. Especially in midfield and the attack, where Mohamed Salah has to carry the burden. The signing of Federico Chiesa has not worked out, which will play a part in who joins the club in the near future.

One Liverpool star will stay this summer

It has been months since the new season started. Liverpool headed into this campaign with three of their best players on expiring deals. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are out of contract in the summer. As of this month, none of them has decided to commit to a long-term stay at Anfield. Virgil Van Dijk came out last week to dismiss any rumours concerning his future:

”The only thing I’m focusing on is the game ahead of me, and I’m feeling good. I think everyone can see that, and what the future brings, at the moment, I’ve got no idea.

So anyone who says they know it, they are absolutely wrong. But we’ll see what happens.”

Liverpool have decided to focus their attention to the summer window. The reds want to see out this season before they make any drastic changes to the squad. How the season ends will determine what happens in the summer. Liverpool have reportedly lined up replacements in case any of Salah, Van Dijk or Trent decides to leave the club.

With players’ futures up in the air, it has now been confirmed that at least one first team star will be at Anfield in the summer. According to James Pearce, Alisson has no intentions to leave Liverpool any time soon. The Brazilian rejected a move to the Saudi Pro League last year. Pearce said on the Walk On podcast that the 32-year old wants to see out the two years remaining on his current deal:

“Alisson came out and said that it wasn’t his plan [to leave] and he still intended to see out the contract that he’s got, which is effectively two years this summer. I think one of the years is an option, but effectively two years.

“Liverpool’s stance is that signing Giorgi Mamardashvili was about succession planning. I’ve also been told that they know Alisson has had a lot of interest from the Saudi Pro League in the past couple of years.”
