€35M star set to snub Real Madrid for Liverpool

Liverpool are set to complete a huge move in the summer transfer window.

The reds are focused on making serious changes to the squad this summer. This is why the team chose to be inactive over the past two windows. Since last summer, only two first team players have been added. Federico Chiesa joined from Juventus, and Giorgi Mamardashvili signed from Valencia. The Georgian keeper was sent back on loan to the La Liga side for the rest of the season.

Liverpool will be planning with the current players in mind. Their best players are set to leave in the summer. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are yet to sign new contracts at Anfield. The reds have reportedly drawn up a list of replacements if the trio leave in the coming months.

According to reports, Liverpool have lined up a move for Girona left back Miguel Gutierrez. The La Liga club will be looking for a fee around €35million for the 23-year old. Arsenal are also said to be interested in the defender. Real Madrid have a €9million buy-back clause for Gutierrez. The Champions League holders could look to bring back their former player, with their current issues at left back.

In an interview with Marca in 2023, Gutierrez mentioned that a return to Madrid is not in his near future:

“I don’t like to talk about the future since in football there are no plans,” Gutierrez said. “I focus on the day to day, I am happy at Girona, the group is spectacular and I only think about working with this team, having a great year and we have a good squad to achieve it.”

Gutierrez started his youth career at Getafe before moving to Real Madrid in 2011. The defender spent 11 years with the La Liga giants. He mainly featured for the youth teams before becoming a regular with the B-team. Gutierrez only made nine appearances for the Madrid first team. In the summer of 2022, the left back joined Girona for an undisclosed fee.

Reds still have a chance to sign Gutierrez

Based on what the former Madrid player has said publicly, it does not look like he will re-join his old club soon. Liverpool do need a left back, with Andrew Robertson getting older. Kostantinos Tsimikas has failed to nail down the position. The Greek international had a promising start to his Liverpool career, but has yet to convince the coach he is fit to be the starter.

Miguel Gutierrez is young, and comes with Champions League experience. For the price quoted, he would be a bargain for Liverpool this summer.
