Liverpool have suffered a huge blow in their aspirations this season.
The club was fully focused on ending the campaign with silverware. Ahead of the summer, club executives are reportedly planning huge changes to the team. This was the reason why Liverpool rejected bids for Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Arne Slot and Liverpool are eager to see how the rest of the season plays out before making any changes. The future transfers will take into account some current players. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold are out of contract in the summer. Liverpool will make most of their transfer decisions based on their futures.
According to reports, one player’s stay at Anfield has been confirmed.

The reds lost their FA Cup fourth round fixture to Plymouth. The championship club is currently bottom of their league, and everyone expected a resounding win. However, outstanding performances from their defence and goalkeeper saw a rare shock win over the reds. Liverpool are now out of one cup competition. The reds are still in contention for the Premier League, Champions League and League Cup.
Arne Slot was disappointed with the team’s performance:
“There wasn’t a lot to be happy about,”
“The only thing I was happy about was that the boys kept on fighting for 100 minutes.
“The best part of our game was the last 10 minutes so that tells you that they kept on fighting. But credit to Plymouth. They had a good game plan and worked incredibly hard. They got a penalty that was the correct decision and that had a lot of impact on the game.”
Liverpool have also lost the chance to go home with over £3million in prize money. Winning the fourth round tie alone was worth £120,000 according to the FA website. The reds could have accumulated a further £1.45million on their way to the final.
Is the FA Cup exit a big blow?
Liverpool fans can view this exit two ways. One of the most obvious ones is that it gives them one less competition to think about for the rest of the season. The reds have already booked their ticket to Wembley for the League Cup final. Ending the season with such a packed schedule would test the limits of a squad that has shown it lacks depth. Arne Slot was understandably not pleased with the performance on Sunday.
On the other hand, it ruins the dream of winning a quadruple. The next round of the FA Cup currently has four lower tier teams, with potentially one or two more depending on results. Seeing how well the reds did in the League Cup, some fans will be frustrated that they exited the FA Cup.
