Liverpool are still reeling from this week’s news.
The reds are now resigned to losing one of their three best players ahead of this summer. Liverpool have tried to tie down Trent Alexander-Arnold to a new deal, but it looks like they have lost the race. Real Madrid have pounced, with the 26-year old set to sign a five-year deal.
This leaves Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk as the other two players who could leave at the end of the season. Both players have played a huge part in Liverpool’s on field success this season, and fans have voiced their concerns over their potential departures. Arne Slot’s first season in charge has been somewhat of a success, but after exiting the Champions League and losing the League Cup, Liverpool have just one trophy to fight for.

Liverpool possibly preparing for another exit

The upcoming summer transfer window will be crucial for the reds. Arne Slot will be backed in the transfer market as Liverpool look to beef the squad ahead of next season. Lack of quality options off the bench is one of the reasons the team could not sustain challenging for trophies on all fronts. The reds hope to add new faces in the summer.
With Trent almost out of the door at Anfield, Football Insider have suggested that another first team star is set to follow. Transfer expect Mick Brown believes Real Madrid will return for Virgil Van Dijk when his contract expires.
Where do [Real Madrid] go and replenish their centre-half positions? One dead certainty is Virgil van Dijk as I’ve said many times. I never see it mentioned, but I would be surprised if that hasn’t happened.”
“[Huijsen] is a young centre-half they could take, and make into the type of player they want, but they’re going to need a centre-half at the start of next season.
“Van Dijk is a ready-made choice, if that was their choice. This lad [Huijsen] is one of those that you’d take, and you’d say; ‘I’m backing him to move up the ladder’.”
This means Real Madrid could snap up Van Dijk, and Dean Huijsen – a player Liverpool have on their transfer shortlist this summer.
