Liverpool will be active in the transfer market this summer.
The club plan to revamp their squad ahead of next season. Arne Slot has shown what he can do with the current squad, and he will be backed when the window opens. Multiple areas of the team need upgrades, and the squad as a whole needs quality in depth.
But first, Liverpool have to deal with the contract situations on the table. With Trent Alexander-Arnold set to join Real Madrid, the reds have to decide on Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk. Unlike with Trent, the duo have hinted that they are willing to stay at the club, but on improved contract terms. Salah and Van Dijk are currently two of the highest earners at Anfield.

Jamie Carragher speaks on Liverpool transfer

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s rumoured departure has sparked a lot of outrage this week. Fans and pundits alike have voiced their frustration at the move, saying that the boyhood Liverpool fan betrayed the club. Trent joined the reds at just six-years old and has risen through the ranks. His exit will surely be met with negativity from the fans.
However, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has no concerns with the move. He believes that the reds are responsible for the failure, rather than Trent being blamed for the exit:
“So, if you’re a Liverpool fan and a local player, I’m just disappointed that he doesn’t think that this is it. I’m putting myself in his position where I’d be thinking that we could go level with Manchester United in league trophies, I’ve got another seven or eight years at Liverpool and want to get three or four ahead of them, with a couple more European Cups.
“It seems like there’s not one thing people are unhappy with – it’s leaving on a free or that he should have come out and told the club earlier – people are angry for three or four different things,’ Carragher added.
“I’m not angry about him going on a free. In an ideal world, Liverpool would get £70m or £80m for him to reinvest, but you can’t have it both ways as a supporter.”
Carragher is right about the club
It is a very embarrassing situation Liverpool have found themselves in. Losing one of your best ever academy talents for free should not be something a big club does. Reports have suggested Real Madrid made contact with Trent years ago, so why did the reds not try and sell him for a huge fee? Liverpool could have got Madrid and other European clubs to pay a premium fee for the 26-year old as soon as they found out he never planned to sign a new deal.
Now the club have possibly lost him and two other players who formed the spine of the team under Jurgen Klopp.
