Here to stay – Danny Murphy makes his feelings clear about Liverpool and the title race

Liverpool further burnished their title credentials on Sunday when they scored a big 2-1 victory over Chelsea in a Premier League game at Anfield.

The Merseyside giants are sitting at the summit of the Premier League table after eight games and are emerging as a real contender to win the league this season.

Ahead of the game against Chelsea this weekend, there were question marks over whether the Reds really faced a big challenge in the league early in the campaign.

Some observers felt that the next few weeks are going to make it clear whether Liverpool can challenge for Manchester City’s Premier League crown this season.

The Merseyside giants answered some of those questions against an in-form Chelsea side and they are now being looked at as serious challengers for the Premier League title.

Arne Slot has been keen to play down the importance of the result but the tune around the Reds team has changed since the win over the Blues.

Danny Murphy, who won the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the UEFA Cup at Liverpool, has been left impressed with what he has seen of the Reds this season.

Liverpool will face another tough challenge when they travel to north London to take on Arsenal, who will be without William Saliba, next Sunday but the ex-Red is convinced that his former side will fight for the league this season.

He stressed that Liverpool are indeed the real deal and will sustain a title challenge for the rest of the campaign.

“I feel like they’re here to stay”, the former midfielder said on BBC’s Match of the Day (via Yahoo). They are really here to stay. They’ve got good balance like what we’ve been talking about.”

Ahead of Arsenal, Liverpool have a tough Champions League game to deal with when they travel to Germany to take on RB Leipzig on Wednesday night.
