Wirtz has approved the move, but Leverkusen are not prepared to lower their £126.5m demand, and knocked back the £110m offer from Liverpool.
According to German daily Bild, Edwards has FSG’s green light to go up to £126.5m for Wirtz and complete the club-record purchase in the ongoing transfer window.
The Liverpool football CEO has been trying to lower the overall cost of the deal, but FSG are now keen to see him light a fire in the negotiations.
The two clubs are intent on getting an agreement done, and Wirtz is still expected to join Liverpool in the ongoing transfer window.
