Liverpool might have already made their first signing of the summer.
Despite the end of the season being months away, Liverpool are actively working to improve the squad ahead of next season. Arne Slot has had a fantastic first year in charge. The ex-Feyenoord boss has succeeded all expectations after a fast start to the season.
Liverpool could end Slot’s first season with a treble. The reds win away to Manchester City on Sunday increased their lead at the top of the Premier League. A shock loss to West Ham on Saturday now has Arsenal 11 points ahead.
During the season, Liverpool have had the chance to assess the squad. Major transfer decisions will be made in the coming months. Arne Slot is expected to be backed heading into the summer transfer window.

Fabrizio Romano confirms Liverpool signing

It has been reported that Liverpool have drawn up a list of targets ahead of the upcoming window. The club is also bracing themselves for departures. Any major changes to the squad will be made with the future of current players in mind. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are all out of contract at the end of the season.
Because of that, Liverpool are working on possible replacements. With Van Dijk almost certain to leave, the reds are reportedly after a new defender. Fabrizio Romano confirmed this last week. This week, the journalist has revealed more details about Liverpool’s potential first signing of the summer:
“I can confirm once again to you that Liverpool are really, really advancing in the process to identify the centre-back they want to sign in the summer,”
“Liverpool will go for an important centre-back.”
“In an internal meeting they had with Richard Hughes, with people on the board involved and Arne Slot too, they all agreed on bringing in an important centre-back in the summer transfer window.”
Fabrizio hinted that this transfer target is Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen. The youngster reportedly has a £50million release clause, and is being targeted by Europe’s best clubs.
“Let’s see what happens, we know their position on [Dean] Huijsen. Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern and Newcastle are all keen on signing him. There will be many clubs in the race.”
Reds must move fast on Huijsen
Off the back of an impressive Premier League season and a £50million release clause, Huijsen is no short of suitors. Liverpool will now have to convince the youngster to join the club. However, with Van Dijk potentially leaving Anfield, it could open the door for Huijsen to come in and be a starter straight away.
