Liverpool are interested in Donyell Malen but are yet to open talks with PSV Eindhoven and the Dutchman is one of two Mino Raiola clients of interest.
The transfer window is here and has brought with it a fresh wave of hysteria as supporters are desperate to see new signings arrive and bolster the Reds’ Premier League title hopes.
The 2020/21 season was a disappointment even if it ended with a third-place finish but Michael Edwards acted quickly to sign Ibrahima Konate for Jurgen Klopp.
The Frenchman is expected to bolster the centre of defence which was obliterated by injuries to every player that made an appearance at centre-back.
Where are Liverpool with regards to Malen?
Twitter erupted in a state of excitement around lunchtime on Thursday after it was falsely claimed that Sky Sports Germany were reporting that talks had been opened to sign Malen (22) from PSV Eindhoven.
Unfortunately, this is not true. That said, Anfield Central has since learned that there is genuine interest in the attacker but signing him will not be simple despite his relatively low asking price of round £25million.
He is with the Netherlands’ national team at the EUROs and with the Dutch expected to reach the latter stages of the summer tournament, developments will not be forthcoming for some time.
Malen is a target for Liverpool, that much is true, and while the club contacted PSV previously to enquire about his contractual situation and their willingness to sell, they have yet to open formal talks with the Eredivisie outfit.
Contact has yet to be made with Raiola, the infamous agent in charge of Malen’s affairs, but that will change after the EUROs when the Reds will have a greater understanding of their finances.
As is well known outside of this publication, Liverpool will need to sell in order to generate funds to sign the players that will arrive this summer.
Talks set to be held for Gravenberch
Anfield Central exclusively reported at the start of June that it is Liverpool’s plan to make contact with Raiola following the conclusion of Holland’s EUROs involvement.
Gravenberch impressed Liverpool in his two appearances against the Reds in the Champions League this season, showcasing an astonishing maturity for a player that was only 18 at the time.
Ryan Gravenberch Sr. was defiant when he said in May that his son will stay at Ajax for another year.
We made enquiries to a source close to the player and were told that there is ‘zero’ truth to claims he will leave the club this year.
Liverpool will explore the possibility of negotiating a Naby Keita style deal to sign Gravenberch but it’s expected that Ajax will want to avoid agreeing on a fee until next summer.
This is because the player’s value, which Transfermarkt claims is already €33m (£29.7m), will only increase over the next year.
