Genoa midfielder Morten Frendrup has addressed rumours linking him with a move to Liverpool over the summer. While acknowledging the speculation, Frendrup expressed that while it was flattering, no concrete offer ever materialised.
He emphasised his happiness at Genoa, where he’s focused on developing and gaining playing time.
Speaking to Tipsbladet, Frendrup was asked about a potential move to Liverpool and said that while he’s very flattered, there’s noting serious in the works.
“It’s obviously a huge club, but it’s a long way from concrete interest. For me, it’s about doing as well as possible. So, everything else is up to my agent,” he said.
Liverpool, under Arne Slot, had a relatively quiet summer, signing only Federico Chiesa for the first team.
They were linked with several players, including Frendrup, but ultimately prioritised Martin Zubimendi but the 25-year-old rejected them preferring to stay in La Liga.
Despite missing out on Zubimendi, the emergence of Ryan Gravenberch has quelled concerns about Liverpool’s midfield needs. Former Reds player Phil Thompson even praised Gravenberch for his excellent performance, particularly during Liverpool’s recent 3-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Frendrup remains content at Genoa, ready to continue his growth in Serie A while leaving future opportunities to his agent.
The Danish midfielder – who earns €19,000 per week according to Capology – has been linked with Liverpool for around two years now but it’s probably better to trust Gravenberch, who is only a year younger than risk it on a transfer.
