Liverpool will be in the market for a striker this summer.
Since Arne Slot joined the club, he has opted not to use club record signing Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan has been relegated to a rotation role off the bench. Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have played as the strikers in Slot’s system this season. Heading into the summer, the reds will be looking to sign a new striker.
Liverpool’s attack has been carried by Mohamed Salah for a large part of this campaign. The second top scorer in the league is Luis Diaz with nine goals. As for the striking options, the reds have been linked with multiple Premier League stars. Signing a new striker will not be cheap; Liverpool could make Jota, Nunez and Diaz available for sale to raise funds for the upcoming window.

Manchester United chase Liverpool target
The reds have been linked with Brighton’s Joao Pedro, Wolves star Matheus Cunha and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak. Just this past week, the club have also been linked with Victor Osimhen, who has been placed on the transfer list by Napoli. All three will be expected to cost a fortune. In order to complete any signing, Darwin Nunez will need to be moved. Liverpool reportedly want to recoup at least £60million of the Uruguayan’s transfer fee.
According to Sky Switzerland, Manchester United have joined the race for Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian international is having a great season on loan at Galatasaray. He has 20 league goals for the Turkish side this season. Napoli want to sell the 26-year old, who has a €75million release clause in his contract. Aurelio De Laurentiis has reportedly reached out to agents across Europe that Osimhen is available this summer.
Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation as it stands. Liverpool have also been linked with the Nigerian international.
Osimhen move could block Nunez exit
Darwin Nunez is almost certain to leave Anfield this summer. However, there is a very unlikely scenario that the Uruguayan stays ahead of next season. With his huge price tag, and the underwhelming performances this season, not a lot of teams would be willing to take a chance on him. This could mean the reds would be stuck with Nunez for another season. Having him around the club would make it hard to raise funds to sign a new striker, with the current transfer fees being mentioned for Liverpool’s targets.
