The Trent Alexander-Arnold contract situation seems to have no end in sign for the Reds fans who are growing wary about the prospect of seeing a Liverpool-born player leaving the club on a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool want to tie down the 26-year-old on a new deal but the defender is said to have rejected multiple offers of a new contract from the Merseyside giants.
Real Madrid have been courting him and are keen to take him to the Spanish capital next summer on a free transfer once his current deal runs out of time.
The club have already offered him a mega-deal and will make an official approach to Alexander-Arnold in January when he will be free to speak to clubs outside England.
Liverpool are dreading losing the top star for nothing and the backlash it would attract from a fanbase who have never really taken to the current owners.
However, the Reds are not getting any positive signs to suggest that Alexander-Arnold will sign a new contract and a move to Real Madrid is increasingly becoming an inevitability.
One more bad update on the Trent Alexander-Arnold contract situation
Journalist Robins Bairner was speaking on The Transfers Podcast about the situation surrounding Real Madrid’s interest in Alexander-Arnold.
He admitted that under normal circumstances Real Madrid would not have tried to sign Alexander-Arnold given his affiliation to Liverpool and the high costs it would have involved.
However, his contract situation has made him a viable target and concedes that it seems more than likely now that the defender won’t be putting pen to paper on a new contract with Liverpool.
Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?
He indicated that for the moment Alexander-Arnold seems Real Madrid-bound next summer despite Liverpool’s attempts to keep him at the club.
“That’s also the case with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, who wasn’t necessarily a player that they were going to go and move for”, Bairner said.
“But with it becoming increasingly expected that he’s not going to sign a new deal with Liverpool, it seems that he is starting to become an increasing possibility to sign at Real Madrid.”
Liverpool will keep trying to convince Alexander-Arnold but their hopes are likely to diminish once he enters the final six months of the contract.
