Liverpool suffer seismic double blow

Arne Slot will have to play a new backup for Mohamed Salah

Liverpool sit second in the Premier League table at this stage of the season but there are worries that injuries could derail their momentum in the coming weeks.

The Reds are already missing a top star in Alisson Becker who is recuperating from a hamstring injury and will not return to action until after the November international break.

Caoimhin Kelleher has done well between the sticks in the Brazilian’s absence but Alisson’s presence on the pitch is seen as pivotal for any success Liverpool could achieve this season.

Harvey Elliott is still out with a broken foot and the injuries are piling up with Arne Slot suggesting that he could consider recalling Ben Doak from his loan spell at Middlesbrough in January.

More injury misery for the Reds

Slot is preparing his side to take on Brighton in the Premier League at Anfield on Saturday afternoon and he will be missing more players from his squad.

Federico Chiesa has featured for 78 minutes since his arrival in the summer and has not played since before the October international break.

The Liverpool manager has not been entirely impressed with the fitness levels he has seen from the Italian and recently admitted that he needs to step up the intensity.

Can you name the club Liverpool signed these players from?

But those things can only happen when he becomes fit and Slot confirmed that the winger won’t be seeing any action until after the next international break this month.

The Liverpool manager also confirmed Diogo Jota’s absence until after the break, which is a major blow for the team as the Portuguese was the favoured striker for Slot.

“Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota will not be back before the international break”, Slot said in a press conference.

While Chiesa has done little, his absence is still leaving Slot a bit short in terms of forwards in the squad and allows him less chance to rotate players in attack.

However, Jota’s absence could hurt more as Darwin Nunez has started just two Premier League games this season and Slot preferred the Portuguese over the Uruguayan.

Liverpool will hope to avoid any more injuries and set-backs until the players report for international duty later this month.
