Champions League milestone beckons Mohamed Salah

Mohamed Salah has come under criticism in the past couple of weeks for his sub-par performances. But the club talisman has an opportunity to turn the tide. A big milestone is round the corner for the Egyptian.

Since Salah’s arrival at Anfield he has been instrumental to the club’s success. Under Jurgen Klopp and now Arne Slot, he has helped guide the team to several titles. Two Premier Leagues, a Champions League, a FA Cup, two EFL Cups, an UEFA Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup.

Apart from club honours, Salah has numerous individual honours and milestones to his name as well. It is of those milestones that Salah will look to reach against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Mohamed Salah nears another milestone

Salah is already the top goal scorer for Liverpool in Europe. He has got 45 goals for the Reds in the competition. Add to it his goals for other clubs, his tally goes up to 48 overall. Therefore, a brace against the Bundesliga club will get him to the coveted 50 goal mark.

The 33-year old currently lies tied 12th on the list with Andriy Shevchenko and Zlatan Ibrahimovic giving him company. Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano lies ahead of him in 11th.

Among Africans Salah already is on top ahead of Didier Drogba and former teammate Sadio Mane, and he now has the chance to become the first African to reach the 50 mark.

Cristiano Ronaldo remains the overall top scorer, with a phenomenal 140 goals  to his name.

Salah’s form is cause for concern

Records not withstanding, Salah’s recent form is an area of concern for the Anfield outfit. He has failed to find the net or turn provider in the club’s last five games. Pundits have also called for his exclusion from the starting XI.

Jeremie Frimpong came on late for Salah against Manchester United. His addition sparked life into Liverpool’s attacking line, something Slot would have noticed. So a start for the Dutch star on the right cannot be ruled.

However will Slot be brave enough to drop the club’s number one star or opt for his most experienced Champions League campaigner up front.
