Champions League club holds talks with Virgil Van Dijk

Liverpool and Virgil Van Dijk are still in contract talks.

The reds are keen on keeping the club captain at Anfield this summer. Van Dijk continues to show that he is not slowing down at his age. Another fantastic season anchoring one of the best defences in Europe. He is not the only player at Liverpool with an uncertain future. Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold are also out of contract this summer.

Liverpool have made the trio’s futures a priority, but with a few months towards the end of the season, it looks increasingly unlikely that all three players commit long-term. This will play a huge part in transfer plans this summer, as Liverpool plan a revamp of their team.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold reportedly already set to leave, Liverpool will now switch their focus to Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk. The duo have hinted that they would consider staying at Anfield, but on improved terms. But there has been some worrying news on that front.

Inter Milan have made contact with Liverpool captain Virgil Van Dijk over a move this summer. Caught Offside reports that talks have not began and Inter have not put forward a contract offer. But the Italian side are set to present a proposal to convince the 33-year old to make the move to Serie A next season. Inter Milan president Beppe Marotta is said to be leading the charge to sign the Dutch international.

Though Van Dijk has not made it clear about his future plans, he recently mentioned that most of the news surrounding him is not true:

“If there is news, you guys will know it. I don’t even know myself. Everyone knows there are some conversations behind the scenes but that is about it. At the moment, I don’t even know what will happen next year. If anyone says they do know, they are lying to your face.”

FC Barcelona have also shown interest in the defender, but have taken a step back due to wage demands. The Spanish side will continue to monitor the situation into the summer. Liverpool and Van Djk will now focus on their nine league games left to secure the Premier League trophy.
