Liverpool are prepared to sell several of their title heroes from last season, but are playing a game of cat-and-mouse with certain stars.

Luis Diaz is one of the players who is keen on a move this summer, and his dream destination is Barcelona. However, the Reds have made a curious call on his future.

They have rejected Barcelona’s approach, but are deeply unenthusiastic about offering him a new contract to improve the 28-year-old’s current terms.

Liverpool Echo journalist Ian Doyle revealed that the Reds are likely waiting for an offer from Saudi Arabia if they are to sell Diaz to maximise their profits.

“Diaz as well, I’m not sure whether they are massively keen to give him a new contract. I don’t know”, Doyle said on the Blood Red podcast.

“They’re not pushing to do it. Not that they won’t do it, but he’s got two years left, and because he’s 28, it looks like, ‘well, we’ll just see how things go’. Whether that involves Saudi Arabia coming in with a bid for £85m, then you go, hmm…”
