Liverpool finalise monster transfer for ‘best in the world’

Liverpool have been working on a deal to sign Florian Wirtz since last month, and have edged Bayern Munich and Manchester City out of the race.

The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder chose the Reds following a meeting with Hughes and Arne Slot in England last month, despite agreeing on a more lucrative contract with Bayern Munich.

The Merseyside giants have been trying to negotiate down Leverkusen’s asking price. Still, according to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool have decided to fork out the money needed to get a deal over the line.

A verbal agreement is now in place between the two clubs, which would see Liverpool pay in excess of £126m for Wirtz’s signature.

It is a Premier League record fee, and the attacking midfielder will soon travel to England to undergo a medical and complete the formalities of a stunning transfer that no one saw coming even a month back.
