Big clubs line up shock move for €85M Liverpool star

Liverpool could be set for a huge financial boost in January, as clubs target one of their star players.

Much like during the summer transfer window, there has not been a lot of movement in January. Fans at the club have voiced their concerns and want the team to add a few more players as the club is set to compete for a potential quadruple. Arne Slot has the Liverpool side in great form in the early weeks of 2025. The Reds are still top of the Premier League, and are firmly in contention to win the other competitions.

Slot has achieved so much with this Liverpool side since taking over. He had just one permanent signing for the senior team, and has made the most of the current squad. Now, it looks like the Reds can afford to make moves in January as a first team star is on his way out.

The Reds have had a great season in the Premier League, and entered the New Year as league leaders with a game in hand. Arne Slot has done a fantastic job and exceeded all expectations, with Liverpool winning 14 of their 19 league games so far.

One player who has not featured as much in this campaign is star striker Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan has only started seven Premier League games this season, and has been benched in favour of Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz. Fabrizio Romano has reported that clubs in the Saudi Pro League are ready to offer Liverpool a huge sum for the striker:

“What I can confirm at the moment is only that interest from Saudi in Darwin Nunez is genuine,”

“There have been conversations to understand the situation of Darwin, the price tag and all these sorts of things.

“For sure there is something in terms of contacts but at the moment there is nothing advanced in terms of negotiations.

“We have to respect Liverpool – Darwin is an important player for them and they spent important money on him. There are still plenty of things to do and at the moment, we are not at that stage.”

Should Darwin Nunez leave Anfield?

Arne Slot would prefer to keep his squad as it is, considering how good they have been so far. But there is a feeling that the club could sell Darwin Nunez and invest the sum in some areas of the team. If the Reds can recoup most of the striker’s transfer fee, one would think the prospect of a move could tempt Liverpool.
